Hemorrhoids affect most people and the treatment available normally does not cure the problem but is meant to relieve the pain, soreness and inflammation. Hemorrhoids are growths in the rectal and anal area that are painful and sore. These can be either external or internal and sometimes even both.
About half the population will be affected at one point or other by age 50. the most commonly affected persons are between 45 – 60.
Some of the most effective home treatment methods include squatting rather than sitting on the toilet when having a bowel movement. This will reduce the strain that occurs in the rectal region during a sitting bowel movement. Sleeping with raised legs is also advised.
Use of a hand held shower device to gently spray streams of cold water to swollen hemorrhoids will help reduce the swelling. Doing this over a period of time may eventually cure the problem.
Placing an ice pack on external hemorrhoids can relieve itching and swelling and is an effective home treatment. Leave the ice pack for 15 – 20 minutes. Use of Neosporin ointment especially to large internal hemorrhoids in large doses helps in the treatment procedure.
